Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA): OEA is the Department of Defense's primary source for assisting communities that are adversely impacted by Defense program changes, including base closures or realignments, base expansions, and contract or program cancellations. OEA offers technical and financial assistance to adversely impacted communities, and coordinates the involvement of other Federal Agencies through the Defense Economic Adjustment Program and the President's Economic Adjustment Committee.

U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) : EDA’s economic adjustment program assists state and local interests design and implement strategies to adjust or bring about change to an economy. The pogram focuses on areas that have experinces or are under threat of serious structural damage to the underlying economic base. This program predominantly supports two types of investment activities:

Strategic Planning - Strategy investments help organize and carry out a panning process resulting in a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) tailored to the communities’s specific economic problem and opportunities.
Project Implementation – Implementation investments support activities identified in an EDA approved CEDS. Activites may include, but are not limited to, the creation of strategically targeted business development and financing programs such as construction of infrastructure improvements, organizational development and market or industry research and analysis.

BRAC Coach : The BRAC Coach is a new electronic tool developed by the U.S. Department of Labor for workers, businesses, and employment and training service impacted by the recent Base Re –Alignment and Closure (BRAC) actions initiated by the Department of Defense. The BRAC Coach identifies common issues or problems facing those likely to be affected by BRAC and provides step-by-step instructions to help users find resources to related information.

Staff Coach : The staff coach is a support tool for workforce develoment staff. This interactive coach provides a list of customer scenarios and guides users through a series of CareerOneStop E-Tools to assist with the employment search.

Staff Medicare Coach : The staff Medicare Coach provides resources to assist with questions that customers may ask about the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage.

DoD Job Search : The Department of Defense: (DoD) Job Search is an association web site of the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) America’s Job Bank. It is intended to assist separating service members in their job search by providing a priority entry point to America’s Job Bank and improve access to employment opportunities targeted to the skills of transitioning military personnel. This site also contains a special resume writer disgned to help users translate their military experience into the appropriate civilian/private sector language.

Military Spouse : MilSpouse is the most comprehensive web portal site for military spouse employment, resources and information to support the career aspirations of military spouse job seekers- particularrly those in the midst of a permanent change of station move. This portal is jointly sponsord by the Deparments of Labor and Defense and provides easy access to information, resources and opportunities related to education, training, and employment, and support services such as child care and transportation. The MilSpouse.org web site also contains a career coach, that is accessed through a “Need Help?” button, and guides users to information based on problems often facing spouses. Users select a situation and are then guided to specific resources.

Military Spouse Job Search : Military Spouse Job Search is a joint venture between the Army Spouse Employment Partnership, U.S. Community and Family Support Center and the Department of Labor. Users can access workforce, training, and education information, career assessment aids, or build a resume. This site also features a financial aid center for spouses considering going back to school and a relocation center for families considering a permanent move or temporary change of location.

Relocation Center: Relocation Center offers a link to government and private sector resources that can help military and BRAC impacted workers who need to consider a permanent move or temporary change in location. Aides used to evaluate relocation options, information on local job opportunities and wages, cost of living, financing the move, mortgages, and insurance can all be found at this site.

Credentialing Center : The Credentialing Center is a specially designed site that brings together information resources to assist both civilians and transitioning military to obtain required occupational credentials that will qualify them for employment opportunities. The site, which is part of the CareerOneStop electronic tools, pulls together a number of online resources related to credentailing, including the occupational Certification Finder and Licensed Occupations search tools from America’s Career InfoNet, information on Apprenticeships, as well as three sites specifically designed to assist military members – Army Credentialing Opportunities OnLine (Army COOL), the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP), and Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES).

National Emergency Grant Fully Documented Plan -

Alaska has five military facilities that were identified for closure or realignment by the Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC).  Eielson, Kulis, Elmendorf, and Ft. Richardson were on the original BRAC list with Galena  added July 20,  2005.

August 2005 Progress Report -

On August 25th The BRAC commission voted not to put Eielson AFB in warm status (too impractical) but to move the A-10 fighter jets to another location. This will impact the area but it will not have as devastating affect as it would have with the initial recommendation from the Commission.
